Eddy Pineiro had a redemption outing

What we’ve found out about Carolina Panthers kicker Eddy Pineiro over the past two weeks is that he fares better in a tropical storm than in a dome.

After a miserable performance in Week 8 in which Pineiro missed an extra point and field goal on the road at the Atlanta Falcons, he needed to start repaying the faith shown in him by Steve Wilks. Especially considering those two missed attempts cost Carolina a crucial triumph.

The pressure was on Pineiro in front of the Thursday Night Football cameras. But the former Chicago Bear bounced back in a big way.

In difficult kicking conditions, Pineiro made four of his field goals. Despite a missed extra point, the Florida product came up big when the Panthers needed him.

Pineiro got the stroke of luck he needed early when his 46-yard kick went through the uprights with the help of a doink off the post. But they all count and after such a torrid outing against the Falcons a fortnight ago, one could argue he was due some good fortune.

To put into context the difficulty of the conditions, Falcons kicker Younghoe Koo – who is one of the league’s most reliable kickers – missed a pair of extra points. So this was a huge positive from Pineiro and a performance that should keep him around for Carolina’s remaining engagements in 2022.
