C.J. Henderson – Carolina Panthers CB

Donte Jackson tearing his Achilles was a blow to a secondary that has been struggling for form aside from the outstanding campaign Jaycee Horn is putting together. Missing a core veteran piece means others must make their presence felt, which puts C.J. Henderson firmly in the spotlight as someone that could benefit most from this unfortunate turn of events.

There’s no doubt Steve Wilks remains confident in Henderson’s abilities. He worked closely with the former first-round pick in training camp and gave him another public vote of confidence shortly after Jackson was ruled out for the season and beyond.

Henderson’s had some tremendous moments this season, most notably in Week 8 at the Atlanta Falcons where he attained a phenomenal 91.1 grade from Pro Football Focus. But some issues in coverage remain and the jury is still out as to whether or not he can ever fulfill his exceptional potential coming out of Florida.

The Carolina Panthers will likely start Henderson opposite the ultra-gifted Horn this weekend against a Baltimore Ravens receiving core that isn’t exactly blessed with talent. Something that makes Lamar Jackson’s production even more remarkable all things considered.

This is a good opportunity for Henderson to show everyone what he’s capable of. However, any further complications could mean cornerback ends up becoming a pressing need once again in 2023.
