It’s been a season full of drama for the Carolina Panthers. And more changes could be on the way once their remaining engagements in 2022 come to a conclusion.
The Panthers are looking to the future and the prospect of a new head coach coming on board. Although current interim Steve Wilks is staking a huge claim to become Matt Rhule’s permanent successor after stamping his own mark on the franchise impressively in just a few short weeks.
What conclusions team owner David Tepper and others make in the months ahead will shape Carolina’s short and long-term future. This also includes making some tough decisions about certain roster members and their statuses beyond this season.
With this in mind, here are five Panthers players unlikely to be back in 2023 based on how the campaign’s gone to date.
Player No. 1
Damien Wilson – Carolina Panthers LB
There have been times when Damien Wilson‘s looked the part. However, consistency remains a big issue and the Carolina Panthers could move on from the veteran linebacker after just one season given their need to free up valuable finances for Steve Wilks or a new head coach.
Wilson’s early release next spring represents a cap saving of $3.61 million with $1.07 million in dead cap. Considering every cent counts during another important offseason, the former Super Bowl winner might be looking for a new home unless drastic improvements occur.
