Carolina Panthers select Chase Brown

  • Running Back | Illinois

After taking the difficult decision to trade Christian McCaffrey before the deadline, the Carolina Panthers might look for a replacement during the 2023 NFL Draft. However, the incredible rise to prominence of D’Onta Foreman indicates this might not be the pressing need it was immediately after the move was confirmed.

Foreman looks like a workhorse running back that can wear down defenses at will. The former Texas standout responded well to additional responsibilities and if things continue in the same manner, then the Panthers would be wise to offer him a bigger commitment to prevent the player from hitting the free-agent market.

With that being said, Carolina could use a mid-rounder on another option even if Foreman sticks around. Chase Brown is a solid option with real momentum after taking the correct career path by transferring from Western Michigan to Illinois in time for the 2019 campaign.

Brown’s demonstrated real consistency over the last two seasons. He’s been the focal point on offense in 2022, gaining 1,442 rushing yards and seven touchdowns from a whopping 280 touches in 10 games, with his ability to catch out of the backfield also progressing encouragingly.

There is some work to do in terms of route-running and pass protection. These things can be easily taught to someone who’s developed considerably of late.
