Carolina Panthers’ young defense continues to grow

If it wasn’t for the Carolina Panthers defensive unit on Sunday, this game could have gotten ugly fast. At halftime, a score of 3-0 indicated that both defenses were clearly on top, which continued after the break before Lamar Jackson did just enough to get his team over the hump.

Heading into this clash, fans were understandably worried about how Al Holcomb’s unit would fare against Jackson, a former NFL MVP and one of the league’s most electrifying playmakers.

In the grand scheme of things, Carolina’s defense acquitted itself admirably as the dynamic Jackson ended the contest with just 209 passing yards and 31 rushing yards. It wasn’t until the fourth quarter when they were pinned deep in their own territory that the Baltimore Ravens managed to find the end zone.

The Panthers ended the day with four sacks, including a first on the season for Yetur Gross Matos. Brian Burns notched his eighth quarterback takedown through 11 games as the 2021 Pro Bowler edges closer to breaking that elusive 10-sack number.

We even saw a big man interception as Bravvion Roy showed tremendous athleticism for a player of  330 pounds to snag a pick.

The only blot on the defense again was another sub-par showing from cornerback C.J. Henderson as he allowed Demarcus Robinson to go off for a career day, Steve Wilks had some choice words for the former Florida standout in his day-after press conference, stating in no uncertain terms his contribution wasn’t good enough.
