Carolina Panthers now have a top-two draft pick

Most fans have checked out for this season and frankly who can blame them? It’s hard to browse through Carolina Panthers Twitter at the moment and not see some sort of mock draft, which is indicative of the poor play we are currently seeing on the field.

As it currently stands, the Panthers hold the No. 2 overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, with only the 1-8-1 Houston Texans having a worse record. If things stay this way it would leave Carolina in pole position to select one of the premier quarterbacks in this year’s class.

It seems as though Houston is done with the Davis Mills experiment, leaving them very likely to select either Bryce Young or C.J. Stroud with the first pick. If the Panthers’ are next on the board it’s vital they take whichever promising signal-caller falls into their laps.

While teams are reportedly falling in love with the traits of Will Levis out of Kentucky, he is not someone who should be taken in the top two if Stroud or Young are available. He may have some similarities to Josh Allen, but his play over the last few weeks has been more like Sam Darnold from his USC days and the Panthers would be wise to stay away.

This season has been a slog from start to finish. But fans should take hope from the end being in sight and hopefully Carolina will start 2023 with a new quarterback and an exciting head coach.
