Terrace Marshall Jr.’s continued emergence

In terms of the Carolina Panthers’ skill positions this season it has been painful. With Christian McCaffrey now a member of the San Francisco 49ers and star wide receiver D.J. Moore struggling, one positive to emerge since the firing of Matt Rhule has been the emergence of Terrace Marshall Jr.

The former LSU wideout has battled a mixture of injuries and coaching incompetence since entering the league. His former head coach even suggested at the start of 2022 that Marshall had to “start practicing” after he suffered another setback in the preseason.

Since Rhule’s firing, Marshall has grown into the undisputed WR2.

Through the first five weeks of the campaign, the 2021 second-round selection had just four receptions for 30 receiving yards, even finding himself as a healthy scratch on some occasions. Since then, the improvements have been vast.

From Week 7 onwards Marshall has tallied up 13 receptions for 290 yards and snagged his first NFL touchdown at the Cincinnati Bengals. The player has benefitted from Robbie Anderson’s trade to the Arizona Cardinals and the stark regression from Shi Smith but deserves immense credit nonetheless.

As the season goes on, the decision for Rhule to leave him in street clothes becomes even more baffling.
