Carolina Panthers QB hell is almost over

Of all the things holding the Carolina Panthers back, their constant revolving door at the quarterback position is No. 1. And in all honesty, anything else comes a distant second.

It’s been one pathetic gamble after another since the Panthers controversially released Cam Newton in 2020. Teddy Bridgewater came and went after just one season, Sam Darnold quickly became an expensive flop, and Baker Mayfield was the final flawed move of the Matt Rhule era under center.

The fact P.J. Walker has looked like Carolina’s most competent signal-caller is the most damning indictment of all. A player that wouldn’t have even made the active roster had Matt Corral not suffered a serious broken foot in the preseason.

Things are bleak right now. And there could be a few more turbulent performances at football’s most important position to come.

However, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

As it stands right now, the Panthers are poised to possess the No. 2 overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft. Something that gives them a legitimate shot at landing either Bryce Young or C.J. Stroud.

Either prospect represents a franchise-caliber college prospect providing they reach their respective ceilings. This is an opportunity Carolina cannot afford to waste after deciding not to trade up for Justin Herbert and passing on Justin Fields.

For fans, they can be thankful that the Panthers’ quarterback hell is almost at an end.
