Ben McAdoo – Carolina Panthers OC

Whatever momentum Ben McAdoo managed to generate in the immediate aftermath of Matt Rhule firing has now evaporated. Another pathetic display of play-calling from the offensive coordinator in Week 11 left many wondering how much longer he’d be tasked with such responsibilities, especially considering that Steve Wilks can ill afford a complete capitulation down the stretch before team owner David Tepper makes his final judgment.

The Carolina Panthers – or Rhule to be precise – fired Joe Brady midway through the team’s 2021 bye week once he returned from his mini-vacation. It was later revealed that the departed staff member spent his time in the building working closely with Cam Newton on picking up the playbook following his late arrival, which made the decision even more bizarre.

Whether this is something Wilks could contemplate if McAdoo lays another egg versus an outstanding Denver Broncos defense remains to be seen. It’s hard to completely shift offensive strategy this late in the campaign and with just five games remaining, the former New York Giants head coach might get a reprieve no matter how he performs this weekend.

There’s almost no chance of McAdoo sticking around under Wilks or a new appointment. So why not elaborate his system and show the sort of creativity that might get him an opportunity elsewhere?

And who knows, it might just be the catalyst to bigger things for Carolina’s offense in the coming weeks given the talent at their disposal.
