Carolina Panthers defense vs. Russell Wilson

As stated previously, the Carolina Panthers defense played well enough to win their game against the Baltimore Ravens. Keeping quarterback Lamar Jackson contained until late in proceedings was no mean feat, but this was not matched by the offense, who laid another egg with Baker Mayfield under center.

The result is all that matters, obviously. But last weekend should provide enough confidence that Al Holcomb’s unit can have a big say in proceedings versus Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos.

Wilson is among the NFL’s most decorated quarterbacks. However, his trade from the Seattle Seahawks hasn’t worked out as many envisaged before the campaign and this is something the Panthers can take advantage of on home soil.

Generating pressure on Wilson will be crucial. There are more chinks in the signal-caller’s armor than ever before, so turning up the heat could provide a turnover opportunity or two that might prove pivotal to the end result.

The nine-time Pro Bowler is completing just 59.5 percent of his passes in 2022 and has just seven passing touchdowns to his name. Carolina’s defense will smell blood in the water, so how they limit Wilson will go a long way to determining the outcome.
