Which Carolina Panthers have emerged as unsung heroes as the team gets set for its long-awaited 2022 bye week?

There is a quiet sense of optimism about the Carolina Panthers and their potential to finish the 2022 season strongly. An impressive success at home against the Denver Broncos in Week 12 was another feather in Steve Wilks’ cap, with the interim head coach making a strong claim to win the job long-term unless drastic regression occurs between now and when the campaign concludes.

With five games remaining, the picture is becoming clearer. However, after his gamble to prise Matt Rhule from the college ranks became a disaster quickly, team owner David Tepper will likely explore every possible avenue in pursuit of getting this decision right.

Carolina sits at 4-8, which represents an achievement considering how low things were before Rhule’s firing. It’s also been refreshing to see improved professionalism and performance from those within the locker room who are fully behind Wilks.

With this in mind, here are four Panthers who’ve become unsung heroes at the 2022 bye week.

Chris Tabor – Carolina Panthers ST coach

It was an offseason of substantial change to the coaching staff. In fairness to Matt Rhule, he got some key appointments right and Chris Tabor fits into this bracket after guiding the special teams unit to great things in 2022.

Tabor’s track record is proven and respected in equal measure. He is making the most out of the tools situated within the Carolina Panthers, which is a far cry from the production generated by former special teams coach Chase Blackburn.

Whether it’s Steve Wilks or someone else, the Panthers must do everything in their power to keep Tabor around once the team’s long-term strategy is confirmed.
