Austin Corbett – Carolina Panthers OL

Austin Corbett is never one to hog the limelight. The interior offensive lineman was a key addition for the Carolina Panthers in free agency and one could argue he’s been the most important acquisition from the veteran pool in recent memory.

Corbett arrived in Carolina riding on the crest of a wave following his outstanding contribution to the Los Angeles Rams playoff run to the Super Bowl. Something he’s built upon further during what could end up being the best campaign of his professional career to date.

There is nothing extraordinary about Corbett. He does all the little things extremely well and has a knack for keeping any opposing defensive lineman at bay with relative comfort.

The former second-round selection has given up two sacks and conceded one penalty from 703 snaps according to Pro Football Focus for an impressive 73.3 grade. Corbett’s pass protection is nothing short of outstanding and this is matched by ruthless aggression in the run game that’s hard not to love.

For all Carolina’s faults this season, the offensive line has emerged as the real force and is undoubtedly one of the NFL’s most improved groups. Corbett has played a leading role in this success, so the front office deserves enormous credit for identifying the veteran as a primary free-agent target and striking with conviction.
