D.J. Moore was a key part of the Carolina Panthers offense

One of the biggest talking points following the trade for Baker Mayfield was that D.J. Moore would finally have a solid NFL quarterback throwing to him. What transpired with the Heisman Trophy winner under center is set to give the wide receiver his worst-ever statistical campaign.

Mayfield and Moore failed to form any sort of connection when on the field together. This is night and day compared to what we’ve seen with P.J. Walker and now Sam Darnold as both have made the wideout a focal point under offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo.

Moore notched just his second 100-yard receiving yard game of the campaign on Sunday as the former Maryland star reeled in four receptions for 103 receiving yards and his fourth touchdown of the season. Considering he was matched up with Patrick Surtain II – who some are calling the league’s best cover cornerback in 2022, he deserves immense credit.

Through the opening 12 weeks, Moore has 46 receptions for 605 yards and four scores. This production is significantly lower than what we’re used to.

However, with Mayfield now unlikely to start for the remainder of the season, one would imagine Moore will be a pivotal part of this offense. And with five games remaining, the player has every opportunity to keep his 1,000-yard receiving streak alive.
