Eddy Pineiro continued his resurgence

If there is one player who deserves immense credit over the last few weeks, kicker Eddy Pineiro would be near the top of that list. The pressure was on when his costly missed kicks on the road in Atlanta contributed to a gut-wrenching loss, but the resolve he’s demonstrated has been remarkable.

But following the loss at the Falcons, Steve Wilks threw his support behind the kicker and there’s no doubt this faith is being repaid. The former Florida star is hitting more than 90 percent of his field goals and extra points, which represents an outstanding achievement all things considered.

Outside of that disastrous Sunday in Atlanta, Pineiro has missed just a single extra point and field goal apiece. Since that game down I-85 South, the veteran has been perfect on field goals hitting 8-from-8 and his only extra-point miss came on Thursday Night Football in the midst of a tropical storm.

With Zane Gonzalez potentially returning for the Panthers in 2023 following injury, Pineiro may not be re-signed in Carolina. But his play this season will certainly make other teams take notice and he should have no trouble finding a new home.
