4 Carolina Panthers players not pulling their weight in 2022
By Dean Jones
Which Carolina Panthers players haven’t pulled their weight during what’s been a rollercoaster 2022 season so far?
The improvements made by Steve Wilks since replacing Matt Rhule are notable and encouraging in equal measure. It’s been a long, hard slog to their 2022 bye week, but there are now ambitious projections surrounding the Carolina Panthers and finishing the campaign strongly.
Rhule’s been quick to make excuses and even made a claim that he shouldn’t have taken the head coaching job in the first place. This is a sentiment echoed by fans, who never got on the same page thanks to his constant incompetence throughout his three-year tenure.
The atmosphere is different under Wilks, a proud man from the region who has restored belief. However, this isn’t rubbing off on everybody if recent performances are any indication.
On this topic, we picked out four Panthers players who haven’t been pulling their weight in 2022.
Player No. 1
Tommy Tremble – Carolina Panthers TE
Production at the tight-end position remains a concern. The Carolina Panthers are benefitting from Ian Thomas’ exceptional blocking, but no option has emerged into a presence in the pass-catching aspect and this is something those in power could rectify in free agency or the 2023 NFL Draft.
This leaves Tommy Tremble with a murky future. The former third-round pick just hasn’t taken the leap many anticipated and although there are flashes, it’s nowhere near consistent enough where the Notre Dame product is concerned.
Perhaps Tremble’s physical attributes are more suited to a full-back role. But much will depend on how a new head coach or Steve Wilks perceives his contribution throughout the season.
