Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper’s influence

To say David Tepper‘s ownership of the Carolina Panthers hasn’t gone well so far would be understating things slightly. The billionaire paid a then-record $2.2 billion to acquire the franchise from Jerry Richardson, but he’s yet to taste a winning season and his failed acquisition of Matt Rhule had the potential to set the organization back years.

Giving Rhule the final say on roster decisions and $62 million was laughable and a testament to Tepper’s inexperience. He might be thriving in the world of business, but that counts for absolutely nothing when it comes to running an NFL team.

Perhaps this humbling experience will make Tepper think twice about becoming too influential in football matters. He’ll appoint the new head coach, obviously, but taking a back seat when it comes to personnel moves might be the best solution moving forward.

Whether Tepper can do this or not is another matter. There are already rumors circling about the owner wanting Will Levis from the 2023 NFL Draft according to the Charlotte Observer, which would be a controversial pick in no uncertain terms given how much the Kentucky prospect has flattered to deceive this season.

Tepper should focus his attention on improving the structure and facilities. Especially after the Rock Hill project ended in such a comical fashion.
