Which bold head coaching hires could the Carolina Panthers pursue if team owner David Tepper decides not to move forward with Steve Wilks?

The talk surrounding Steve Wilks potentially becoming the long-term head coach is growing with every passing week. The Carolina Panthers’ turnaround has been impressive under his leadership, with the ability to get everyone on the same page and completely shift the culture two other traits that strengthen the interim’s chances of an extended stay.

Of course, nothing is guaranteed. This bears more significance when one considers how reckless team owner David Tepper has been when it comes to decision-making.

Keeping Wilks would obviously improve continuity and a sense of belonging among the fans. However, there’s also a high chance that the billionaire swings for the fences despite his costly error in judgment regarding Matt Rhule’s appointment.

With this in mind, here are five bold head coaching moves the Panthers could make in 2023.

Carolina Panthers could target Frank Reich

Things didn’t go according to plan for Frank Reich with the Indianapolis Colts. Their trade for Matt Ryan was a disaster and perhaps no franchise in NFL history has been impacted more by one specific retirement than the AFC South team after Andrew Luck called it a day.

With that being said, Reich is a good football coach and widely respected in league circles. Something that could lead the Carolina Panthers in his direction if David Tepper is not 100 percent convinced by Steve Wilks‘ long-term prospects.

This would be a bold strategy. But getting someone with legitimate NFL experience is absolutely vital after Matt Rhule’s disastrous spell in Carolina.
