5 bold head coaching hires the Carolina Panthers could pursue in 2023

Carolina Panthers could target Mike Tomlin
These are bold hires, right?
The Pittsburgh Steelers are having their worst season in some time. Something that could end Mike Tomlin‘s streak of never succumbing to a losing season since taking the job.
At 4-7 and going nowhere fast, the Steelers could make a bold change and go with someone other than Tomlin. This would be extremely foolish given his exemplary track record, but the NFL is a crazy place and the notion cannot be dismissed.
If ownership made the grave error of letting Tomlin leave after the 2022 campaign, the Carolina Panthers should be on the phone immediately. David Tepper knows him well from his time as a minority owner in Pittsburgh and saw first-hand the level of consistency accumulated by the coach
One possible – and glaring obstacle – in this unlikely scenario is the report from Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk in 2018 that Tepper and other Steelers partners wanted Art Rooney to fire Tomlin and go with someone else. A request that fell on deaf ears.
Just how true this is will likely determine whether or not Tomlin would want to work with Tepper again. It would also be a shock of epic proportions if the normally loyal Rooney cut ties with his coach upon the first sign of failure.
