P.J. Walker – Carolina Panthers QB

Things looked pretty bleak for P.J. Walker this summer. Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield, and rookie Matt Corral were all locks to make the team, which left the former XFL MVP candidate facing the prospect of being cut or perhaps landing on the practice squad.

However, injuries to Darnold and Corral gave Walker a reprieve. When Mayfield also went down with a high-ankle sprain, the one-time Temple star was thrust back into a starting role when all hope seemed lost.

Walker’s had some ups and downs. But there was definite progress during his time under center before he was forced out through injury and this leaves him with some hope for the future.

Considering how low expectations were career-wise for Walker once upon a time, this is the best he could have hoped for in no uncertain terms. Even if the Panthers do go in a different direction before free agency, the signal-caller at least has some solid film to potentially get another shot in different colors.

That wasn’t the case this time last season. Walker found life difficult to generate any sort of momentum when called upon in 2021, so his production was a big step in the right direction more often than not.

Walker has a live arm and can make things happen on the move. These traits alone should get him a deal elsewhere and it’s something that will no doubt interest the player, too.
