The Carolina Panthers go in search of a notable scalp when they travel to take on the Seattle Seahawks in Week 14 of the 2022 season.

Much like the 2021 bye week, it’s been far from dull where the Carolina Panthers are concerned. Upon the return back to business on Monday, quarterback Baker Mayfield asked for and was granted his early release by interim head coach Steve Wilks, who will now move forward with Sam Darnold after the Oklahoma product failed to make the most out of what could be his final chance to become a productive NFL starter.

The Panthers have closed multiple chapters this season. Matt Rhule is gone, plenty of coaches followed the previous head coach out of the door, and now Mayfield is also off to pastures new providing another team shows sufficient interest via waivers or free agency.

Wilks is in no mood to dwell on the past. He’s focused on the here and now and the Panthers go in search of a big scalp when they visit the Seattle Seahawks in Week 14.

Not many anticipated Seattle doing much in 2022 after they traded star quarterback Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos. However, head coach Pete Carroll’s masterminded a surprising run of results and Geno Smith’s career renaissance has the signal-caller among the NFL Comeback Player of the Year frontrunners for good measure.

Lumen Field is among the loudest stadiums in the league. But confidence is high within the Panthers and although things haven’t been easy on the road lately, they’re not without a chance based on their Week 12 triumph.

Carolina Panthers at Seahawks prediction for Week 14

Even though the Seahawks have some tremendous talent at their disposal, there are some cracks in the armor that Carolina can exploit. Seattle is vulnerable to teams that pound the rock consistently, so expect Ben McAdoo to lean heavily on D’Onta Foreman in pursuit of gaining early momentum.

Much will also depend on whether or not Darnold can remain efficient. The former USC star managed things well versus the Broncos and looked in complete command, but there’s enough evidence to suggest mistakes could emerge if asked to do too much or if the Panthers get in a hole early.

This is an intriguing matchup with little to separate the two teams from a talent perspective. Carolina’s secondary needs to be at the top of their game to counteract the threat of D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, but they are giving up 2.6 sacks per game, which won’t go unnoticed by stud edge rusher Brian Burns during their preparations.

Sunday’s game will be a solid measuring stick to see how far Wilks has brought this team in a short space of time. It’ll also be interesting to witness what adjustments were made during Carolina’s extended period of rest.

With this in mind, we are going on the optimistic side and predicting a signature win for Wilks in Week 14. Those with a more cautious approach should bet the +3.5.
