4 Panthers that can earn new deals over final 5 games in 2022
By Dean Jones
Which Carolina Panthers could earn themselves new contracts if things go well over their final five games of the 2022 season?
Even though the Carolina Panthers have amassed just four wins from the 2022 campaign so far, they aren’t completely out of the running just yet. Tom Brady’s late rally versus the New Orleans Saints makes things more difficult, but that won’t prevent Steve Wilks and his players from giving everything over their remaining five games.
Carolina’s impressive win over the Denver Broncos was a great way to head into the bye week. If further improvements come following their extended rest and additional planning time, then the schedule doesn’t look all that difficult compared to what they faced earlier in the season.
Nothing is guaranteed where the Panthers are concerned. But there is a newfound determination and extra urgency across the organization with so much uncertainty coming next spring, which could propel them to better fortunes when it’s all said and done.
Speaking of this topic, here are four Panthers that can do their chances of a new contract an untold amount of good down the stretch in 2022.
Panther No. 1
Al Holcomb – Carolina Panthers interim DC
When Steve Wilks took over, he wasted no time in removing defensive coordinator Phil Snow. The interim head coach installed Al Holcomb as his replacement and despite the odd blip, it’s hard to deny he’s getting a real tune out of this talented group.
Holcomb’s keeping things simple, which is helping. More importantly, he is playing to the strengths of his primary weapons and allowing them to flourish.
If the Carolina Panthers finish strongly and the defense continues performing at similar levels, then it would be wise for the primary decision-makers to keep Holcomb around in some capacity.
