Carolina Panthers could draft Trenton Simpson

It’s no secret that the Carolina Panthers need reinforcements at linebacker this offseason. A situation that could become even graver depending on what happens with the likes of Shaq Thompson, Damien Wilson, and Cory Littleton.

A core component behind Carolina’s success throughout franchise history was an outstanding second level. Although finding another Luke Keuchly or Thomas Davis is almost impossible, taking a good look at Trenton Simpson during the all-important assessment process would be wise.

Simpson has everything one looks for in a dominant linebacker at the next level. He is strong, fast, and physical, boasting the right instincts to be around the football consistently.

There is nothing Simpson cannot do on the field. He is a commanding presence against the run, can make things happen in obvious pass-rushing situations, and also has eye-catching credentials on coverage to further enhance his influence.

The Panthers have never selected a player from Clemson, which is well documented. Whether this will put them off this time around remains to be seen, but it would be wise for the organization not to overlook some outstanding prospects emerging from Dabo Sweeney’s program this year.

Simpson is a fantastic athlete with a bright future. But the Panthers might look the other way due to more pressing needs early in the draft.
