Carolina Panthers are getting results

When it comes to the crunch, the NFL is a results business. Something that was always going to be a leading factor behind David Tepper’s final decision on Steve Wilks.

The Carolina Panthers are 4-4 under Wilks, which isn’t exactly earth-shattering. However, with coaching departures, key players traded, and Matt Rhule leaving a trail of destruction, this is even better than the most optimistic fan probably envisaged when the former Arizona Cardinals head coach took charge.

Carolina is also building up steam at the right time. They are 3-1 over their last four encounters, which is usually what separates the playoff contenders from the also-rans at this time of year.

Wilks has been preaching playoff mentality and the importance of wins this late in the season. The Panthers have a chance and more importantly, control their own destiny when it comes to winning the NFC South and securing an unthinkable playoff berth.

Tepper is reportedly still looking elsewhere for a new long-term appointment despite Wilks’ continued success. Just what could change the owner’s mind is anyone’s guess based on his unpredictability, but reaching the postseason would be the icing on the cake.

The Panthers are competitive and eager for more. So the answer to turn this franchise around once and for all is right in front of Tepper providing he doesn’t get in his own way.
