Carolina Panthers draft Jared Verse
- Defensive End | Florida State
The Carolina Panthers got a quarterback and tight end from their opening two selections, so adding another pass-rusher to put alongside Brian Burns is next on the list. While Yetur Gross-Matos continues to impress against the run, his inability to wreak havoc in opposing backfields in obvious passing situations is concerning and could lead the franchise to explore alternatives.
Someone like Jared Verse is well worth a look here. The Florida State product has all the tools normally associated with productive pass-rushers at the next level, with his 7.5 sacks and 14.5 tackles for loss in 2022 sure to catch the attention of NFL scouts during the evaluation process.
Verse is a phenomenal athlete that made full use of his transfer from Albany in time for the 2022 season. His size and agility are significant obstacles to overcome, which is coupled with an exceptional length that keeps opposing offensive linemen at bay.
There is enough speed and explosiveness to go off where Verse is concerned, too. If the prospect performs as expected during the NFL Scouting Combine, then entering first-round consideration cannot be ruled out.
Adding Verse to pair with Burns could provide the Panthers with an outstanding tandem for future success. Although what this would mean for Gross-Matos’ long-term future is unclear.
