Carolina Panthers draft Tyler Davis
- Defensive Tackle | Clemson
The Carolina Panthers have never selected a prospect from Clemson. Considering the number of talented individuals emerging from Dabo Sweeney’s program in 2023, this streak could end next spring.
Players such as Myles Murphy, Trenton Simpson, and Bryan Bresee are generating real hype. But there are some lower down the pecking order that should also come under consideration.
One such individual is Tyler Davis, a mammoth defensive tackle that could provide Carolina’s ever-improving run defense another shot in the arm. The interior lineman has unbelievable strength that makes him incredibly difficult to move off the block, which is matched by surprising explosiveness in obvious pass-rushing situations that could be of use.
Davis attained 4.5 sacks and 8.5 tackles for loss in 2022. This was encouraging when one considers he’d not reached the heights of his rookie campaign in the two seasons after.
This would become a bigger need if the Panthers cannot reach an agreement with Matt Ioannidis on a contract extension. But providing terms are reached, Davis would be a nice complimentary piece that can develop into a potential starter.
Adding Davis to a defensive tackle depth chart that also consists of Derrick Brown solidifies an anchor that’s gone from strength to strength this season.
