Jeremy Chinn – Carolina Panthers S

Jeremy Chinn‘s 2022 season can be split into two parts. Before and after his spell on injured/reserve.

There is no doubting his ability when firing on all cylinders. Chinn is a supreme difference-maker at the second level with proven instincts to make things happen in key moments, which made the Carolina Panthers’ decision to trade up and acquire the player at No. 64 overall a solid piece of business.

Since Chinn returned to the lineup, there’s been obvious hesitancy. This was exposed in no uncertain terms by the Pittsburgh Steelers, who also took advantage of the South Illinois product’s inconsistency in coverage during one of his worst performances in a Carolina uniform.

This sparked some hot debate on social media about where Chinn is best suited. His performance level overall as a rookie at outside linebacker is the most prolific we’ve seen from the player, so perhaps it might be worth switching him back to the second level long-term.

The Panthers aren’t blessed with the greatest backend depth, which complicates matters. Something that probably indicates Steve Wilks will ride it out with Chinn at the safety spot before the franchise seeks additional reinforcements in 2023.

Chinn is capable of much better than we’re currently witnessing. So a big response is needed before the 2022 campaign ends.
