Carolina Panthers should monitor Darnell Washington
- Tight End | Georgia Bulldogs
Ian Thomas is developing into one of the league’s best-blocking tight ends. But from a pass-catching standpoint, the Carolina Panthers need an upgrade.
Fortunately for the Panthers, the 2023 NFL Draft is rich with exciting tight-end prospects that could come in and make an immediate impact. Something influential figures within the organization would be wise not to ignore next spring.
Although he’s playing second fiddle in terms of hype to Brock Bowers, there is plenty to like about the physical attributes Darnell Washington brings to the table. His size, athleticism, and route-running are all developing quickly with the Georgia Bulldogs, which indicates more is on the way once he gets to the NFL.
At 6-foot-7 and 265 pounds, Washington is a matchup nightmare across the middle or in the red zone. He’s got the scope to become a quarterback’s best friend in no time at all, boasting quickness that defies his size when in the open field.
Washington’s length also comes with above-average blocking that will only progress further in a professional environment. This seems like a tremendous fit for the Panthers, but they might miss out on the prospect if he plays his way into first-round consideration during the college football playoffs.
