Raheem Blackshear – Carolina Panthers RB

D’Onta Foreman’s outstanding performances since Christian McCaffrey was traded to the San Francisco 49ers are deserving of a new contract. Just how long for is the big question, but the Carolina Panthers should reward the running back for his influence after finally getting a chance to shine under Steve Wilks.

While Foreman’s future seems decided, the same cannot be said of Raheem Blackshear. The undrafted free agent has flashed from limited reps after being signed from the Buffalo Bills practice squad, but whether it’s enough for a stay beyond 2022 remains to be seen.

Carolina is currently in the midst of a running back committee approach that’s been a huge success more often than not. Some changes could be coming on offense with a new franchise quarterback and offensive coordinator, but this method keeps everyone fresh and limits the risk of injuries for good measure.

The Panthers have multiple draft picks to potentially acquire another back from the college ranks if the right opportunity comes along. However, if Blackshear puts up lofty numbers with the carries that come his way at the New Orleans Saints, it might make those in power think twice about going in this particular direction.

At the very least, Blackshear deserves a full training camp in an attempt to make the 53-man roster. But the NFL is not always that simple.
