Laviska Shenault Jr. – Carolina Panthers WR

  • 2023 cap saving – $1.65 million
  • 2022 season stats (through Week 17): 26 receptions, 264 receiving yards, 64 rushing yards, 2 total touchdowns.

Another trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars resulted in the Carolina Panthers landing Laviska Shenault Jr. The wide receiver made his impact felt immediately with an electrifying 67-yard touchdown catch and run on debut, but the player has unfortunately not contributed much since then.

Shenault is very much a gadget player. Someone who has great traits with the ball in his hands, but has a hard time making any sort of impact before touching the ball.

This includes route running and creating separation, in which the former Colorado Buffalo struggles. Touches for Shenault have to be manufactured into the game plan, which isn’t ideal.

With the shaky quarterback situation and questionable play-calling from Carolina’s offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo, Shenault was never able to find his rhythm within the Panthers’ offense. Although there is some talent where the player is concerned that could become something more in the right fit.

The Panthers have an easy path to releasing Shenault. With $0 in dead money and nearly $1.66 million in cap savings, the team could be saying “Hasta Laviska” for very different reasons.
