Carolina Panthers select Marvin Mims Jr.

  • Wide Receiver | Oklahoma Sooners

Once the Carolina Panthers secure C.J. Stroud or another promising quarterback from the college ranks, they must do everything in their power to surround them with the tools to thrive. The offensive line looks set providing Bradley Bozeman gets a deserved extension, with the three-headed monster at running back something else that could assist in 2023.

Improving consistency at the wide receiver position would be a welcome change of pace. While the offensive scheme implemented by Ben McAdoo isn’t the most creative, there’s not been much solid production to go off aside from D.J. Moore – who needs 122 receiving yards in Week 18 to pull off the unlikeliest 1,000-yard year imaginable.

Adding another dynamic prospect from the college ranks wouldn’t hurt once other needs are met first. If the Panthers wait until the mid-rounds, Marvin Mims Jr. could come under consideration.

The Oklahoma stud enjoyed a sensational 2022 campaign that resulted in 54 receptions for 1,083 receiving yards and five touchdowns. Mims attained a whopping 20.1 yards per reception and produced some memorable moments that should have NFL scouts salivating at the prospect of bringing him to their organizations.

Don’t let Mims’ relatively small stature fool you – this is a fiery competitor with enough explosiveness to turn any game on its head when in the mood. His route running is slick and the prospect can either stretch the field or take short receptions for big gains with ease.

Mims could bulk up his frame to cope with more violent hits from NFL-caliber defenders. But this represents a ton of value here.
