Building a capable Carolina Panthers coaching staff

The Carolina Panthers let some prominent coaches go after Matt Rhule’s firing. Some even followed the previous head coach to the Nebraska Cornhuskers just when the team was starting to build some real momentum.

This was another challenge Steve Wilks had to overcome. It wasn’t easy, but he managed to steer the ship effectively and restore a sense of belonging that was sorely missing under the previous regime.

David Tepper stated Wilks needed to do an incredible job to enter consideration upon accepting the interim role. Simply put, he’s ticked every box imaginable and the calls for this move to become permanent are deafening.

For Tepper to confirm this, Wilks needs to make assurances he can put the right coaching staff in place for Carolina to content under his leadership. This might come with two new coordinators, with many positional groups also needing reinforcements or upgrades to maximize the talent at Carolina’s disposal.

With the current trend of offensive minds thriving in head coaching roles, Tepper might ask how Wilks – a defensive-minded guy – is going to mold a coaching staff with the right balance to become more expansive.

If Wilks can do this effectively and secure his preferred targets, then Tepper might give the green light when it’s all said and done. But this is a critical part of the interview process without question.
