4 unknown quantities remaining after Carolina Panthers 2022 season
By Dean Jones
What unknown quantities remain for the Carolina Panthers after their 2022 campaign concluded at the New Orleans Saints?
The Carolina Panthers are now heading into a well-deserved rest period before turning their attention to an immensely important offseason. This season’s had so many ups and downs for the organization that it’s been hard to keep up at times, but there’s at least some optimism things are finally trending in the right direction after years of failure under Matt Rhule.
What comes next is critical. Some monumental decisions await those in power, but the Panthers could emerge as NFC South title favorites in 2023 if they put the correct foundations in place under a new head coach.
Steve Wilks has made a strong claim for the job long-term after galvanizing every aspect of the franchise. But things are rarely that simple where team owner David Tepper‘s decision-making process is concerned.
With that being said, here are four remaining unknown quantities for the Panthers after the 2022 season.
Unknown Quantity No. 1
Amare Barno – Carolina Panthers DE/OLB
When the Carolina Panthers drafted Amare Barno, the sixth-round selection in 2022 was seen as a development project. But a distinct lack of involvement under Steve Wilks means he remains a clear unknown in terms of what he can bring to the defense moving forward.
Barno has the explosiveness and could assist on the rotation with additional refinement. His lack of size could be a problem, but this offseason is an extremely important one for the edge presence in pursuit of a bigger role during his sophomore campaign.
