Matt Corral – Carolina Panthers QB

Another huge need for the Carolina Panthers before the 2023 season commences is what to do at the quarterback position. A number of flawed trades ended Matt Rhule’s reign of terror way ahead of time and despite Sam Darnold’s career resurgence down the stretch, it remains to be seen whether or not he’ll get a new deal as a potential bridge option.

Fans are already deciphering which top college prospect could come into the fold. C.J. Stroud, Will Levis, and Anthony Richardson are atop the list, with Bryce Young also a possibility despite the general consensus sending him to the Houston Texans at No. 1 overall.

This has been a source of great debate. But there is one unknown going under the radar that might play a leading role in Carolina’s train of thought.

The Panthers clearly saw something in Matt Corral last year. While the former Ole Miss standout had his fair share of critics, trading up to No. 94 overall seemed like a risk worth taking after addressing the pivotal left tackle spot in Round No. 1.

Corral took a back seat in training camp as Darnold and Baker Mayfield battled it out for the starting job. However, a serious foot injury ended his rookie campaign before it started and left more questions than answers about his future prospects.

Reinforcements will be sought before OTAs begin. But that does not detract from the intrigue surrounding Corral providing there are no further complications on the health front.
