Which quarterback situations should the Carolina Panthers have their eye on during an important 2023 offseason for the franchise?

We get it, the Carolina Panthers do not have the best track record when it comes to quarterback trades. But with Matt Rhule no longer having the final say on personnel decisions, could a more collective approach see this become an option once again?

The Panthers are picking No. 9 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft after their resurgence under Steve Wilks. Although it was something the franchise desperately needed, it’s put them in a difficult position if they want to acquire one of the top quarterback prospects from the college ranks.

Of course, trading up depending on the situation should be considered. However, if the right opportunity comes along, then going after another signal-caller with NFL experience cannot be ruled out entirely.

Learning from previous mistakes is key. But here are four potential quarterback trade situations for Carolina to monitor in 2023.

Carolina Panthers could monitor Davis Mills

Lovie Smith is out as Houston Texans’ head coach but not before winning his final game. This cost the AFC South outfit the No. 1 overall selection in 2023 when his fate was already sealed.

While that means nothing to Smith, it’s something of a blow. But the Texans remain at No. 2 and should utilize this on a top-tier guy under center despite the presence of Davis Mills on the roster.

Mills had some nice moments in 2022 but could find himself on the fringes. Teams should make calls as a result, even if the Carolina Panthers would be taking another major risk by doing so.
