Carolina Panthers trade offer No. 2

The Arizona Cardinals are in a strange predicament currently. A season of vast underachievement in 2022 saw quarterback Kyler Murray go down with a significant knee injury and head coach Kliff Kingsbury also paid the price with his job to rub further salt into the wound.

All-Pro pass-rusher J.J. Watt concluded his Pro Football Hall of Fame career with retirement. So they are on a fine line between rebuilding and becoming a contender all things considered.

This is probably why they might take calls for DeAndre Hopkins. An offer of multiple draft picks would allow their next head coach to fill key needs in the hope of turning things around, with any trade also clearing a significant amount of salary-cap space to spend elsewhere.

The Carolina Panthers are unlikely to be alone if they threw their hat in the ring. General manager Scott Fitterer wouldn’t be too keen on a bidding war, so putting together some selections this year and next could be enough to tip the scales in his favor.

Of course, there are salary cap complications to consider. But the Panthers can clear north of $40 million by restructuring deals and releasing veterans ahead of time, which will put them in a healthy position to make a bold move or two.

Acquiring Hopkins definitely falls into that category. However, it might be nothing more than a pipedream when one factors everything into the equation.
