Frankie Luvu – Carolina Panthers OLB

When Frankie Luvu‘s promising first season with the Carolina Panthers resulted in a contract extension and well-deserved promotion into the starting lineup, some concerns were raised about his potential to make a lasting impression.

This was something he wasn’t unable to accomplish with significant reps on the New York Jets. But his impact on the rotation and special teams in 2021 meant the coaching staff had to find out one way or another.

Luvu’s ferocity, athleticism, football IQ, and explosiveness made him an absolute revelation at the second level this season. There wasn’t one game where the former Washington State product didn’t make a huge play, which came with career highs almost across the board for good measure.

This story is a fantastic one. Luvu is beloved within the locker room and across the fanbase but more importantly, he’s now an integral part of the team’s plans for sustainable long-term accomplishments.

With one year remaining on his deal, Luvu might get a longer-term commitment if the money is right this offseason. If the Panthers opt to wait until 2024, it could lead to those in power coughing up substantially more to keep the player around.

Nobody is doubting Luvu’s capabilities anymore. If the same trend continues next season, he’ll be classed as one of the league’s brightest at the position without question.
