Tommy Tremble – Carolina Panthers TE

Tight end is a position that the Carolina Panthers have neglected from a receiving standpoint. This has been especially evident since the team let franchise legend Greg Olsen walk.

Beyond the disappointment that has been Ian Thomas after a few flashes in relief of Olsen during his rookie season, there is also the curious case of Tommy Tremble.

Tremble was never touted as a pass-catching weapon coming out of college, more of the prototypical blocking tight end. This makes his selection all the more confusing for a team that already had a player at the position who filled that need.

Carolina and the fanbase alike had high hopes for the Notre Dame product. Hopes that have unfortunately turned out to be misplaced after yet another lackluster year from the tight-end group overall.

That isn’t to say there isn’t still time for Tremble to develop into at least a moderate receiving threat. However, there is nothing pointing to that ever happening at this point.

The production just simply isn’t there.

The instincts, the route running, the hands. These things all flash at points but are never consistently found. This is quite possibly the most frustrating part of it all.

Just like C.J. Henderson, we can see the potential that just never materializes for these two young players.

There is once again a need for the Panthers to go out and get that pass-catching threat at tight end. That is in no small part to the disappointing development of a once-promising Tremble.
