Carolina Panthers could hire Steve Wilks

Even though the Carolina Panthers cast their net far and wide in pursuit of finding the right head coach, Steve Wilks remains in contention. Not exactly surprising when one considers the impact made during his time as interim in 2022.

Wilks was given the toughest task imaginable considering the mess Matt Rhule left behind. Despite not having the benefit of Christian McCaffrey to call upon, the former Arizona Cardinals head coach completely galvanized the organization to the point where they went from bottom-feeders to potential NFC South title winners until their loss at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 17.

The Panthers’ culture was restored, belief returned across the fanbase, and the players fully bought into Wilks’ professional methods. Something that resulted in Carolina going 6-6 under his superior leadership.

It wasn’t perfect. But few would argue Wilks didn’t make the best out of a very bad situation.

Wilks is from a defensive background, which might complicate matters. However, this could be eradicated by forming a concise plan on offense and bringing in the right staff to achieve his objectives.

Nobody would complain too much if Wilks got the job. And with every day that passes, it’s becoming more realistic.
