Carolina Panthers could hire Shane Steichen

It was a mixed bag during the divisional round for those interviewed by the Carolina Panthers. This was not the case for Shane Steichen.

The Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator put together a sensational game plan alongside head coach Nick Sirianni to blow away the New York Giants. Something that’s unlikely to go unnoticed by the Panthers as they pursue similar accomplishments moving forward.

Steichen appears to be exactly what David Tepper is seeking. He’s risen quickly through the NFL coaching ranks, has strong connections across the league, and is rapidly gaining a reputation for being one of the league’s most progressive minds on offense.

Another critical area where Steichen thrives is leadership. One only has to look at how everyone on the Eagles’ offense is pulling in the same direction under his guidance, so there is a lot to like about his chances of a smooth transition to becoming a head coach.

There is also a previous working relationship between Steichen, offensive line coach James Campen, and special teams coordinator Chris Tabor – two coaches that the Panthers should look to keep around no matter who becomes the new man in charge.

Anything can happen and normally does where David Tepper is concerned. But there appears to be a substantial amount of momentum building to appoint Steichen given his phenomenal success in Philadelphia.

Whether Tepper would be willing to take another chance on someone with no NFL head coaching experience is another matter.
