Frank Reich brings tradition to the Carolina Panthers
Matt Rhule’s attempts to suck every last bit of the Carolina Panthers’ long-standing traditions out during his time as head coach played a leading role in his eventual demise. Thanks to Steve Wilks, these were restored in no uncertain terms.
While it might be that important in the grand scheme of things, Frank Reich also brings these same beliefs and is fully aware of their significance to Panthers franchise history.
Reich was Carolina’s quarterback during the team’s inaugural campaign. He also played alongside Sam Mills, a Pro Football Hall of Famer whose Keep Pounding mantra in the face of significant personal adversity remains ingrained across the organization to this day.
The new head coach has deep connections to the Carolinas and knows what makes the fanbase tick. This provides Reich with a head start on adopting this ethos into his overall strategy.
Wilks restored pride when all hope seemed lost. Reich’s task will be progressing this to an extent that the NFL has no option other than to take the Panthers seriously once again.
It’s been a long time since fans had a team to be consistently proud of. Wilks got this back to a certain extent, but Reich’s roots should be a solid foundation from which to build a playoff hopeful while also keeping the traditions of Carolina football going.
