Carolina Panthers should monitor Tyjae Spears

  • Running Back | Tulane Green Wave

The Carolina Panthers put together an outstanding running attack over the second half of 2022 despite trading Christian McCaffrey to the San Francisco 49ers. However, if D’Onta Foreman doesn’t return, those in power should look for another talented player from the college ranks to fill the void.

This is a solid class of running backs entering the league in 2023. Although the Panthers are unlikely to pursue an elite prospect such as Bijan Robinson due to their need at quarterback, one only has to examine recent history to see how many diamonds emerge in the later rounds.

Tyjae Spears looks to be next in line. The prospect shone for Tulane en route to a sensational campaign for the program and his performances in Mobile so far back up his immense skill set.

Spears gained 1,581 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns for the Green Wave in 2022. He is explosive, extremely elusive, and can also make a difference in the passing game when opportunities arrive.

If Spears can bulk up to cope with the rigors of NFL life and also improve his pass protection, this is a prospect to note. And players that get hot at the right time always warrant consideration.

Even if the Panthers do extend Foreman, Sharpe is worth a look. This would give them a three-headed monster that could be among the league’s best under the guidance of Frank Reich and Duce Staley.
