Predicting the Carolina Panthers quarterback room for 2023 OTAs
By Dean Jones
Matt Corral – Carolina Panthers QB
With all the talk of finding a true franchise quarterback, Matt Corral has become a forgotten man where some Carolina Panthers fans are concerned. Something the signal-caller will look to rectify heading into a critical preparation period later this year.
Corral became a potential future franchise player for the Panthers after those in power moved up to take him No. 94 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. Matt Rhule completely mismanaged his reps throughout training camp in one desperate attempt to save his job and the quarterback was dealt another harsh blow when a serious foot injury ruled him out for his entire rookie campaign.
All signs point to Corral making a recovery in time for OTAs. However, with a new coaching regime coming into the fold led by Frank Reich, his long-term aspirations are murky until further notice.
There’s every chance Reich can have a positive impact on Corral’s development. He is a former quarterback with a proven track record for nurturing young talent, which could bring out the best in all the signal-callers at Carolina’s disposal.
It would be a shock if the Panthers didn’t give Corral a shot at proving himself, at the very least. But the former Ole Miss star should be aware that additional reinforcements are coming before OTAs arrive.
