Predicting the Carolina Panthers quarterback room for 2023 OTAs

Carolina Panthers could sign Jacoby Brissett
Sam Darnold improved enough when returning to the starting lineup to ensure a discussion takes place about his potential return. Much will depend on how Frank Reich perceives his progress, but the former USC star has given himself a fighting chance if nothing else.
While an extension cannot be ruled out, it remains unlikely all things considered. General manager Scott Fitterer outlined his desire to draft and develop his signal-caller of choice, which might mean a veteran bridge is needed until any college recruit is ready to assume command.
Reich will have a leading voice in the process, one suspects. Something that could lead the Carolina Panthers into a free agent with close ties to the head coach.
Jacoby Brissett played for Reich previously with the Indianapolis Colts, so transitioning to his system shouldn’t be an issue. This is also a role the player is familiar with, so any adjustment would be minimal.
Brissett filled in admirably for the Cleveland Browns in 2022 before Deshaun Watson’s lengthy suspension concluded. Despite accumulating a 4-7 record, the signal-caller completed 64 percent of his passes for 2,608 yards, 12 touchdowns, six interceptions, and a respectable QBR of 59.8, which was ranked No. 8 around the league.
While this isn’t jaw-dropping by any stretch, it indicates Brissett can be a decent short-term option for the Panthers. Reuniting with Reich is something else that further sweetens the pot.
