Carolina Panthers must confirm Duce Staley’s role

Although multiple reports suggest that Duce Staley will join Frank Reich’s coaching staff, nothing has been formally confirmed by the Carolina Panthers or his current employers, the Detroit Lions. Therefore, the sooner this gets clarified, the better for all parties involved.

Staley is another rapid riser in the coaching ranks thanks to his no-nonsense approach, supreme leadership, and how players gravitate to his methods. The Lions are believed to have granted his request to join the Panthers and be closer to his mother, so it’ll be interesting to see what role he assumes when push comes to shove.

While there is strong weight behind Staley becoming offensive coordinator, the Panthers might have others better placed to take the job. However, if he continued his duties as a running backs coach in a different environment, it will be a significant asset for the development of Chuba Hubbard and D’Onta Foreman if the latter gets an extension.

Whatever position the Panthers give Staley, he’ll give it all and leave nothing to chance. His demands are high, but it’s nothing the coach doesn’t put in himself with maximum commitment at all times.

Staley has a big future as an NFL coach, one that could end up with a top job in the future. Something the Panthers will look to benefit from in a role Reich feels can bring the best out of everyone.
