Could the Carolina Panthers pursue Brian Johnson for their offensive coordinator position in 2023?

After a prudent and meticulous head coaching search, the Carolina Panthers finally found their leader in Frank Reich. Much of the immediate discussion about his prospects shifted towards the filling of his staff, as it was relayed that one of his key advantages in the hiring process was the detailed plan divulged to ownership and the front office.

The first major domino fell into place as Ejiro Evero was brought on board as defensive coordinator. This hiring was met with almost unanimous optimism and approval.

Even prior to Evero’s appointment, another member of Reich’s staff was revealed when Duce Staley was granted permission to leave the Detroit Lions coaching staff to join the Panthers. The former South Carolina star is no slouch, but he wasn’t assigned the offensive coordinator title.

Staley will likely serve in a similar role as he did in Detroit, perhaps as assistant head coach or position coach. The most sensible link is to handle the running backs.

The next prominent hole to be filled is the offensive coordinator vacancy. It may seem as if this hiring is dragging out and taking longer than fans would like, but it could be for good reason.

Brian Johnson’s name has been gaining traction as a possible fit for the open position. But the Philadelphia Eagles are still trying to wrap up some unfinished business en route to a potential Super Bowl.

Now that we’ve reached the final week of the season, this is an appropriate time to get familiar with one of the hottest coaching candidates available. One who appears to be in serious contention for the Panthers’ job.
