There’s every chance Jeremy Chinn can bring his game on significantly under the guidance of Ejiro Evero in 2023. The new defensive coordinator is one of the league’s best up-and-coming coaches, which could result in the former second-round selection moving back to the linebacker position where he thrived as a rookie.

Chinn was solid at the safety position, but no more than that. So this is a big campaign upcoming for the player heading into the final year of his deal.

While Chinn remains a core component behind any success Evero attains on defense, just how much the Carolina Panthers are willing to pay him is another matter. One that might not come to light until the next campaign comes to a conclusion.

Of course, the Panthers could give Chinn an extension ahead of time. But with money tight and Brian Burns also due a huge payday of his own, those in power could wait things out even if it costs them more in the long run.

In the event Chinn becomes unhappy or doesn’t meet expectations, then trading him becomes more realistic. Even if that would disappoint large sections of the team’s fanbase who’ve grown to love the player since his arrival in 2020.

Carolina would be wise to think about this carefully. But Steve Wilks would no doubt provide a strong recommendation to the San Francisco 49ers if the Panthers took calls at some stage.
