Sam Darnold could join the Commanders

There were three NFC East teams that made the playoffs in 2022. Unfortunately for the Washington Commanders, they were the odd one out despite finishing a respectable 8-8-1 under former Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera.

It didn’t take much examination to see what went wrong in Washington last season. Much like the Panthers, a veteran quarterback trade blew up in their face and they must now start over at football’s most important position.

Fortunately for the Commanders, they can move off Carson Wentz with no dead money and whopping savings on their cap. Something that’s led many to speculate whether another bold trade could be in the offing if the likes of Aaron Rodgers and Lamar Jackson become available.

Rivera recently revealed that the current plan is to have Sam Howell as QB1 heading into OTAs. Although the respected coach hinted that competition would be arriving in some shape or form.

Taking a look at Sam Darnold as a cheap option might be in Rivera’s thought process. The player showed enough growth last season to suggest he could shine with the weapons in Washington, but the Commanders should also have grander plans as they look to keep pace within the division.
