The Derek Carr era is over and the Las Vegas Raiders are now examining every potential option to replace him. Another season that promised much and delivered little means the pressure is on Josh McDaniels to get things right, so finding a better fit for his scheme is the team’s top priority this offseason.

Tom Brady retired, so that’s no longer a possibility. Speculation is rising surrounding a trade for Aaron Rodgers, which would reunite the gunslinger with wide receiver Davante Adams after their prolific partnership with the Green Bay Packers.

Going down the draft route from No. 7 overall is another possibility. In this instance, they’d potentially need a bridge option considering how lackluster Jarrett Stidham’s been throughout his pro career to date.

Sam Darnold isn’t the flashiest signing for a team known for making splashes. However, his improved consistency last season means that there could be more organizations taking an interest as a depth option if nothing else.

The Carolina Panthers could decide to offer Darnold a short-term deal while they figure things out. This would also provide any rookie with extra time to refine their craft before taking charge under center.

If Darnold doesn’t get extended, then it will be his first time with such career uncertainty. But he’ll get a new home based on what we witnessed in 2022.
