Carolina Panthers could draft Jahmyr Gibbs

If the Carolina Panthers want a cheaper alternative at the running back position if D’Onta Foreman tests the market, then going down the draft route is the most likely scenario. There is a ton of talent emerging from the college ranks this year, which is something the front office could take advantage of with eight selections in the top 150.

One of the top prospects has all the physical tools needed to become a potential upgrade on Foreman with a smooth transition to the professional ranks. Jahmyr Gibbs is fast, physically imposing, and wears down defenses with a bruising aggressiveness that’s hard not to love.

While Bijan Robinson is the consensus top running back prospect in 2023, that should not detract from Gibbs’ potential. His final college campaign at Alabama was nothing short of outstanding, gaining a 6.1 yards-per-carry average and dominating almost every team that came into his path.

Not only does Gibbs make things happen on running downs, but his efficiency in the passing game is something else that makes him a coveted player. The route-running is crisp and he looks like a tremendous scheme fit for Frank Reich if the Panthers and Foreman cannot agree upon an extension.

Some work is needed from a pass-blocking standpoint, but that can be easily coached up by Duce Staley – one of the best up-and-coming tutors in the business. Whether the Panthers get a chance to select Gibbs at No. 39 overall is the big question.
