Carolina Panthers could target Brandon Powell

Adding to the wide receiver room is something the Carolina Panthers should also contemplate this spring. The team relied heavily on the running game last season under Steve Wilks and Ben McAdoo, which was successful without quite doing enough to make the postseason when push came to shove.

Frank Reich and Thomas Brown’s scheme should be more expansive given their respective backgrounds. This is good news for the likes of D.J. Moore, Laviska Shenault Jr., Terrace Marshall Jr., and Shi Smith, but it would be worth acquiring another explosive weapon to further assist Carolina’s cause.

Even though he’s been primarily used as a kick returner throughout his career, Brandon Powell‘s elusiveness and ability to generate yards after the catch could be of use. The 5-foot-8 speed demon offers something a little different from what Carolina already has on its roster and his previous connection to Brown should smooth any transition.

Powell put up decent numbers with limited involvement in the Los Angeles Rams’ passing attack in 2022, bringing in 24 receptions from 32 targets for 156 receiving yards and seven first downs. The former undrafted free agent out of Florida also gained 1,018 all-purpose yards when return efforts are included.

It’s not the flashiest move. However, Powell would be cheap and still has a significant amount of upside at just 27 years old.
